The UberSTAR program is a 12-week paid internship for undergraduate fresher and rising sophomores. This program is for current college students interested in working in Design and full-time opportunities with Uber.
UberSTAR is a program open to all eligible students and is especially committed to exposing students historically underrepresented in this field to career opportunities in the industry. About the Role
We are looking for current students to join us this summer as an UberSTAR Product Design Intern for 12 weeks beginning Summer 2023!
During your Summer internship with us — you will be embedded within a highly collaborative and cohesive team. We’re looking for an intern who has a curiosity about prioritizing multiple high-touch projects without losing sight of the individual nuances of each aspect of the task at hand! As a Product Designer, you’ll solve hard and sophisticated problems that often span across the Uber marketplace.
As part of the Product Design team, you’ll collaborate with a number of cross-functional collaborators, including Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Designers, and UX Researchers. And you’ll play an integral role in crystallizing project vision and strategy, helping define what we’re crafting and why.
What You’ll Do
- Design simple, sophisticated experiences to simplify complex logistics workflows and processes while working with product managers to define requirements.
- Build wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs based on our UI framework to tackle difficult UX problems.
- Collaborate with your cross functional team to build high-quality design solutions for your product.
- Proactively solicit feedback and learning experiences from other designers to improve your design craft.
- Own design problems end to end, from initial concept through shipping and beyond
- Partner closely with engineers to understand technology capabilities, build your outstanding designs based on quantitative and qualitative feedback, and achieve high quality shipped product
Basic Qualifications
- BA/BS student actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Literature Cognitive Science, Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science or related field
- Must be a first-year or sophomore (2nd year) class standing at the time of application
Preferred Qualifications
- 0-2 years of prior work experience in a research setting
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Basic knowledge of building products for Android, iOS, and web
- Organized, detail oriented and able to work independently on multiple projects at once as well as prioritize them concurrently
- Proven knowledge with office efficiency tools including email, web browser, web apps, database search, spreadsheets/word processors (Google Apps)
- Self starter, taking initiative keeping relevant customers in the loop
- Open to feedback, excellent at implementing newly learned ideas and concepts
